Greece is a mountainous region surround by water. Peninsula is the mainland, meaning a body of land with water on three sides. Far to the east of the Greek mainlandis another Peninsula called Anatolia. Between these two lands are the waters of the Agean Sea. The agean sea is part of the larger Mediterranean Sea. There are lots of islands on the Agean Sea. Greeks living on a peninsula is beneficial because they get to farm, trade and fish.
Many Greeks became fishers, sailors, and traders.The Greeks traded goods and ideas between the islands ans along the areas coastline. The climate was mild, in some places people managed to grow wheat, barley, olives, and grapes. They also rasied sheeps and goats. Most of the Greeks settled in farming communities. Greece was the first civilization to develop in Europe and the westernmost part of Asia. Greek civilization began in an area dominated by mountains and seas. |
